Key takeaways

  • HYROX races don't use a weighted vest. It's a training tool for running and station work under extra load.
  • Omorpho's G-Vest Icon HYROX is the officially licensed HYROX vest: $279 women's, $299 men's, with low-bounce micro-weights.
  • For running, the Hyperwear Hyper Vest Elite starts at $230. On a budget, the CAP Barbell vest starts at $79.99 with weights included.
  • Running and jumping need a snug, low-bounce vest. Heavy plate carriers suit walking and strength work better.

A weighted vest is the easiest way to make your HYROX training harder without new equipment. Throw it on for runs, lunges or burpees and every rep costs more.

This guide is based on published specs, prices and reviews, listed under Sources. We have not tested these vests ourselves. Prices were checked on October 27, 2026.

Do you need a weighted vest for HYROX?

You won’t wear one in a standard HYROX race. It’s a training tool, and an optional one. It makes most sense if you:

Start light, keep your rep standards clean, and build up gradually. Extra load adds impact on your joints.

What makes a good HYROX vest

  • Low bounce. HYROX means running and jumping. A vest that flops around wrecks your stride.
  • A snug fit. Side cinches or adjustable straps that hold the load tight to your torso.
  • Breathability. Mesh or open sides, especially for Las Vegas heat.
  • The right weight range. Most racers don’t need 50 lb for running. Light and adjustable beats heavy and fixed.

1. Omorpho G-Vest Icon HYROX: the official pick

The G-Vest Icon was developed with HYROX, and Athletech News calls it “the only weighted vest officially licensed by the race series.” It costs $279 for women and $299 for men.

Instead of big plates front and back, its MicroLoad system spreads small weights across your torso. Women’s starts at 6 lb and goes to 12 lb with inserts. Men’s starts at 10 lb and goes to 20 lb. It has a front zip, a ventilated mesh back and side laces to tighten the fit.

Athletech’s tester found it stayed in place through squat jumps, burpees and swings, with little bounce on runs.

Drawbacks: it costs more than most vests, and the low maximum weight won’t suit heavy rucking. For walking alone, Athletech says cheaper vests do the job.

2. Hyperwear Hyper Vest Elite: best for running

BarBend and Garage Gym Reviews both pick the Hyper Vest Elite as their best weighted vest for running. GGR’s tester found it gave more range of motion than most vests. It starts at $230, with a contoured fit, open side panels for ventilation and reflective cord straps.

Drawbacks: BarBend found the small weights fiddly to organise, the side cords hang low, and it had some concerns about durability.

3. Titan Fitness Elite Series: best adjustable

BarBend’s best adjustable vest starts at $79.99, with options from 20 to 60 lb in 2.5-lb cast-iron plates and extra padding at the chest and shoulders.

Drawbacks: the pockets felt less secure, and the thick shoulder pads may be wide for narrow shoulders. At these weights it’s better for strength and sled work than for running.

4. Rogue Plate Carrier: built to last

BarBend’s overall pick, at $135 with weights sold separately. It holds up to 20 lb per pouch, 40 lb total, in tough Cordura. GGR’s tester found the padding under the plate pockets cut rubbing, but said “you’re definitely aware that you’re wearing a plate carrier.”

Drawbacks: it only works with Rogue plates, and the shoulder straps are less padded.

5. CAP Barbell Adjustable: the budget pick

BarBend’s best budget vest starts at $79.99 on Amazon, with weights included and options from 20 to 150 lb.

Drawbacks: it’s sized by maximum weight, so smaller frames may swim in it, and weight below the waist strap can flop when you move fast. Fine for walking and strength, less ideal for runs.

Which should you buy?

  • You want the vest built for HYROX: Omorpho G-Vest Icon HYROX.
  • Running is the goal: Hyperwear Hyper Vest Elite.
  • Tight budget, mostly walking and strength: CAP Barbell or Titan.
  • Heavy carries and durability: Rogue Plate Carrier.

How to use it in HYROX training

  • Start light. Begin at the low end of the vest’s range and add weight only when your form holds.
  • Weighted lunges and burpees. A light vest makes station practice harder without a sandbag.
  • Run carefully. Short, easy runs first. Stop if anything hurts.
  • Leave it off for race-pace work. Train your race splits unweighted so you learn the real pace.

Quick answers

Do you wear a weighted vest in HYROX?

Not in a standard HYROX race. A weighted vest is a training tool for making runs, lunges and burpees harder, not race equipment.

What is the best weighted vest for HYROX?

For HYROX-style running and burpees, a snug, low-bounce vest. The Omorpho G-Vest Icon HYROX is the officially licensed option at $279 to $299. The Hyperwear Hyper Vest Elite is a strong running vest from $230, and the CAP Barbell vest is the budget pick from $79.99.

How heavy should a weighted vest be for HYROX training?

Light enough that your running form and rep standards don't break down. The Omorpho HYROX vest starts at 6 lb for women and 10 lb for men, which is a sensible range to start. Build up gradually.

Is a plate carrier good for HYROX?

Plate carriers like the Rogue Plate Carrier are durable and take heavy loads, but they're stiffer and bounce more when you run. They suit walking, sled work and strength sessions better than running.
